080821 Why Monster Bought Trovix

(August 21, 2008) Sometimes, a piece of technology emerges that solves a problem you never thought would get solved. When the solution is really good, it opens the door to thinking about other similar problems and their solutions. Shazam is a mind-blowing application for the Shazam listens to 10 seconds of a song an tells you what it is. It works in restaurants, movie theatres, malls, cars. I use it a couple of times a day to get the name of the song playing in the background.

I’m sure the people in the restaurant thought I was nuts.

At least some of them share my problem. I hear songs in the background all of the time. Starbucks, watching a movie, listening to the radio. I always ask “What’s that tune?” No one ever knows.

Now, I Monster bought Trovix, a very, very smart move on their part.

I agree with you John. We have all known for years that keyword based searching does not work well in the job search domain. It is very refreshing to finally see this shift to job matching in the recruiting industry – a shift which creates win-win situation for both candidates and recruiters / employers. Hats down to Monster’s bold move.
