Good question, Cade.

One of the pervasive myths about recruiting is that it is a standard thing from place to place. Nothing could be further from the truth. Recruiting is how we get new members for our tribes. That means that each process is somewhat idiosyncratic. Worse, local manners and customs really impact the way that we recruit.

That means that a lot of the generalizations you here about Recruiting and HR are half-truths.

Also, a good deal of money is wasted because HR won't join the strategic palnning universe. There is no reason why one can't know, by name, each of the people who might be hired over the next five years. Clearly identifying and targeting the precise potential employees you plan on engaging is what strategic HR?Recruiting should be about. Sadly, it's currently a transactional mess and usually reactive.

Those are good points about HR. I agree with you John. It seems like those problems can't be solved over night. It will need to be revisited again and again.

What do you think are other areas in HR or recruiting specifically that need to be improved?
