Company Description

Modern Hire (the rebranded organization that sprang from Shaker International merging with Montage in May 2019) is the combination of two of the industry’s deep technical benches focused exclusively on the improvement of outcomes in the hiring process. The firm uses intelligent technology to develop, deliver, analyze, and understand job assessment and interview transactions. By blending these two phases of the hiring process, the company delivers value that ensures that the candidate and employer are aligned.

Video interviews, job tryouts and other interactions throughout the hiring funnel produce extraordinary quantities of data about the candidate and their potential fit with the organization. The combined entity features strong ‘AI’ and big data team members with experience in large technical environments (Red Hat, for example). This is a git savvy, open standards-driven, data crunching team who are able to help some of the world’s largest employers (Walmart) refine their understanding of the hiring process.

It’s the combination of Open Standards thinking and technical depth that is so promising. It leads to a team culture that is deeply sensitive to the implications and consequences of their technology. They are thoughtful and ethical technologists willing to deeply discuss and debate the implications of their work for their clients, for the industry, and for the people who engage with their tools.

Why This Matters

Although the current introductory phase of intelligent technology is focused on doing old things faster and better, it’s just the beginning. Long term vision often seems to be a luxury for the companies trying to deliver intelligent tools. That’s largely due to the financial playbook of venture and private equity investors.

The new model company focused on near term market acquisition tend to hold its work as proprietary. Modern Hire, on the other hand sees its advantage as coming from building the industry through a shared set of standards developed in concert with global leaders across industry sectors. They view their work as always under development and champion making the industry’s learning transparent and open to iterative improvement.
